Jeremy Campbell was the Evening Standard's Washington correspondent. The story appears to relate to the third torpedo fired by HMS Conqueror, besides the two that sunk the General Belgrano. The third torpedo struck the destroyer Bouchard, which was not its target. It did not detonate.
