Whether this document records an actual signal or a phone call is uncertain. Pencil additions likely post-date 1520Z. DNOT = the Director of Naval Operations and Trade, a senior post in the naval staff at the MOD, occupied at this point by Captain John Garnier.

A later DNOT note that day records that Sheffield reported the explosion at 1412Z.
