Thursday 7th October 1982

To Brighton - but did note for Ian Gow on the Powell Speech ridiculing PM’s attempt to get Japs to import more + export less - I said Powell logic is right but it is reasonable for PM to explain to Japs the virtue of Free Trade for THEM as well as us - PM met us on steps of Grand Hotel and chatted - more light touches in speech

Gordon Pepper has some ideas on issuing bonds

Attended speechwriting session - awfully messy

RM [Ronnie Millar] prepared a two page piece on Owen’s unilateralism

- but PM said she could not do it

Return to see if I am needed - but enough there already
