| Editorial comments: | This is probably the penultimate draft of the St Francis speech, jettisoned in favour of jotted headings on a tiny file card small enough to conceal in the palm of the hand. The term ‘song’ perhaps suggests unease on MT’s part with the thought of delivering a prayer on the steps of No.10. But in the end, prayer it was. |
