Editorial comments: | This draft version of MT's letter to Colonel Keays differs slightly from the handwritten version that was actually sent (a photograph of which was subsequently published in Sara Keays's book A Question of Judgment (1986 edition, between pp. 152-53)). The photographed version of the letter lacks the words, 'and have asked that I should return your letter, which I now do'. MT in fact decided to destroy the Colonel's original letter, apparently burning it in the sitting room fireplace at Chequers. |
