| Editorial comments: | Around 1030. Shadow Foreign Secretary John Davies was also present. In early discussions of meeting arrangements the White House had wanted to avoid a photo opportunity altogether, a crushing condition which MT’s office strenuously resisted on her behalf. A compromise was reached allowing photographs on her arrival and departure from the building. Somewhere along the way this was upgraded to a shot with the President standing by the Oval Office fireplace. See British National Archives, FCO 82/774. |
