There is further trivial material in the local press. 1100-1200 MT visited Tyntesfield (?special needs) School, where she opened a new block: "It always gives me particular pleasure to come to a school of this kind ... the reason being that one finds here an atmosphere which is seldom found elsewhere. It is a great atmosphere of love, affection and dedication and, in a strange way, the presence of a school like this will bring out the best of everyone in the neighbourhood". She was then driven to the centre of Rugby where she spent over an hour walking through a generally friendly crowd, throwing out her schedule for the rest of the day; "... a delighted Prime Minister ... remarked "There were even more people here than I expected" (Rugby Advertiser, 4 July 1980). |
