1. Coming to the end of a fascinating and fruitful visit.

2. In our talks reached wide measure of agreement on ways of tackling problems, especially:

(a) industrial co-operation

(b) exchanges of investment

(c) the desirability of a practical and effective agreement on technology

(d) increased political co-operation and consultation, again of a practical and effective nature. We both want to solve problems, not just talk about them. [end p1]

3. Two pieces of unfinished business:–

(a) In our talks I promised to let you know British intentions about the great scientific exhibition which you will be holding at Tsukuba City in 1985.

We shall participate—and we shall participate in style.

(b) Secondly, Zenko SuzukiMr. Prime Minister, our own exchanges are not finished.

Nor can they ever be, when we have so many common interests and common problems to discuss.

That is why, though I do not expect you to reply tonight, I have much pleasure in [end p2] inviting you to pay an official visit to the United Kingdom at a time convenient to you.

You will be very welcome.

And I want the chance to repay the magnificent hospitality, and return the warm reception, which I have received throughout my visit to Japan.
