Editorial comments: 1600-1715 MT visited a local school (Oak Lodge) where she opened a work preparation department. "Mrs Thatcher ... said that a young person’s most difficult time was when he made the transition from school to work. "It can be even more difficult for a child who has had learning difficulties", she said. "But such children have been found to serve their employers with great conscientiousness" (Finchley Times, 30 October 1980). 1900-1950 she attended a Red Cross Society reception at St Mary’s Hall, Finchley to celebrate the purchase by subscription of a new ambulance (MT had launched the fund four years before).
