"Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has virtually promised that Finchley Memorial Hospital will stay open. She gave the assurance to huge applause during an official visit to the popular hospital on Saturday. "A lot of people are very proud of this hospital. For those of you who want to know, I believe in small hospitals, and I believe that they should be more than just geriatric units. Any influence I have, I will use in this direction" ... Her announcement was unexpected. 1815-2015 she joined Cardinal Hume at a celebration of the diamond jubilee of the church of St Philip the Apostle. There were speeches and prayers, including one led by the Mayor for the different races in Finchley. "Mrs Thatcher likened St Philip’s Diamond Jubilee you to the year that the church was founded in 1919. She said both were times of great hope".
