Maggie ready to rule

“Let us hope that before this time next year, we will have had a General Election, and will be in power,” said Mrs Margaret Thatcher, MP for Finchley and Friern Barnet and leader of the Opposition, on Saturday.

Mrs Thatcher was speaking at the Finchley and Friern Barnet Conservatives' Bazaar, held at St. Mary's Hall. Hendon Lane, Finchley.

“We need a Tory government now more than ever before.” she told the 800 people at the hall. “During our time, the standard of living rose. Our very worst performance is what the Government are trying to get down to now.”

After opening the bazaar, Mrs Thatcher looked at the stalls, which were manned by local Conservative branches. Conservative Agent Ray Langston said afterwards that she bought something from every stall.

The bazaar raised over £1,000—more than ever before. As well as stalls with everything from toys to trays, and cakes to coffee sets, lunches were provided by George and Marion Morris.
