The collaboration between Labour and Liberals has prevented the general election which most people wanted. But the voters of Stechford cannot be denied the opportunity to give their verdict; a verdict on this shadowy deal and on the disastrous record of this Socialist Government.

The reason for the deal is plain for all to see. It is the act of frightened men with a common dread of the fate that is awaiting them.

It must be a sad occasion for all those people who have voted Liberal in the past to see Liberal MPs joining forces with Socialists.

It is also a sad day for the country. We shall all have to go on paying the price of this government, whose cost has already been so high:

The British pound devalued by more than a quarter; Prices up by 70p in the pound; Income tax up by nearly £10 a week on average for every family; 800,000 more people out of work; Government spending doubled; and The nation's debts soaring. It is a bad record of a bad Government. [end p1]

The aims and objectives of the Conservative Party are set out in our policy statement “The Right Approach” . They are at one with the people. The only alternative to Socialism is a resounding Conservative victory at the next General Election. In the national interest we shall do everything to ensure that it comes soon.

The electors of Stechford now have a chance to hasten that day.
